lonely lonely, that is me

It's the first time that I don't have the beau in tow today for this week's weekend loot. He's feeling under the weather these past few days. I wanted to be with him this weekend but he told me he didn't want me cooped up with him and risk getting the flu myself. "Off you go. Do something crazy," he said. So off I went.

My brain seemed to focus on nail polish these days so I went to the Festival mall to gawk at nail polish. I know, it's sort of lame but when I'm trying to grow my nails back, I obsess about nail color. I think I change colors every week. So anyway, I get there and bought these two: color 319 from BNC and color 05 from BK, which is matte.

Why I forgot to take a picture of the place is beyond me. Probably too excited to see the gray one on my nails. Hehe. So after that, I went to my usual haunts: Booksale and National Bookstore. Bought a couple of stuff from there which are really inspiring. Rummaging through books and magazines made me thirsty so I went to the Coffee Republic at the 4th floor for some Tiramisu Mocha.

This was lucky find. It was out in the open, just waiting for me to pick her up.

I brought my notebooks along with me. One for lists and one for blog posts.

The one for lists is a DIY. It's made from recycled scratch papers, an old folder, and colorful tapes. It's a DIY listography notebook.

This list is a bit outdated. I've managed to put more clutter in my bag these days. Oh look I even described my notebook here! I just realized that was there when I was making this blog post. Heh.

Post-coffee break, I went to California Nails and Day Spa. Again, for the life of me I don't know why I didn't take pictures, like a normal blogger would. Luckily, they have their own website! Look at the pinkness of the place! Let me just say that although it IS pricey than your regular manicure place, it is totally worth it. I've never had such attention given to my nails before. I was literally there for 2 ++ hours. That's about one hour per hand! I love the place, I love the products they use, I love how they do nails. I'm coming back, there's no doubt about that.

Oh! I also bought a new notebook for blogs/notes/"musings". It's a bigger notebook than what I usually buy (see above). It's a regular notebook (Blue Feather padded notebook) and I just wrapped it matching colors so that it would look like a hardbound book. I know, it's dorky. But I'm pretty fickle with my notebooks.

So that was my weekend. How was yours?

P.S. My blog is undergoing renovation right now, so pardon the mess. I'm still trying to figure out the new blogger features.

P.P.S. ...and yeah, I miss you, internet friends. :)

weekend loot

I know I've seen this girl somewhere...

It's that girl from those Japanese candies! Peko-chan!!!!

I knew I had to buy this pair of cuteness. :)

today's music is brought to you by...

Radiohead
Ceremony
(New Order cover)

This is why events unnerve me
They find it all, a different story
Notice whom for wheels are turning
Turn again and turn towards this time
All she ask's the strength to hold me
Then again the same old story
Word will travel, oh so quickly
Travel first and lean towards this time

Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time
Watching her, these things she said
The times she cried
Too frail to wake this time

Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time
Avenues all lined with trees
Picture me and then you start watching
Watching forever, forever
Watching love grow, forever
Letting me know, forever

bed weather

This week's weather is so lovely. It's sooooo cold we just didn't want to move at all. We spent the whole day yesterday at home. Listened to a few records in silence. I love that. Just listening to Hope Sandoval's (Mazzy Star) voice is just heavenly. One of my most favorite singers. Here's to hoping I could cover one of her songs someday... Hah!

Also introduced the boyfriend to Modern Family (the guy needs to watch more TV).

I thought we could finish Season 1 in one sitting. It's my favorite show these days, aside from Wipeout which is HIGH-larious. You have to watch it to know what I mean.

Staying at home on weekends + bed weather = perfection!

weekend loot: birthday edition

My birthday's not until the 29th but I got a really awesome pre-birthday weekend! The boyfriend surprised me with FOUR NEW RECORDS!! And the Orla Kiely book that I've been... ehem... browsing since forever in Powerbooks. I got a 15% discount on it too because of some minor damages to the cover and it being the last one on their shelf.

I took photos of the sleeves and tried to edit them using pixlr.com/o-matic. Tell me if I overdid it, ok? :)

 (1) So Tonight That I Might See - Mazzy Star
 (2) Pains of Being Pure at Heart
 (3) Belong - Pains of Being Pure at Heart
 (4) Among My Swan - Mazzy Star
 (5) Pattern by Orla Kiely

My turntable would be pleased!
This is turning to be one of the best birthdays everrrrrrr!!!

lomohome! yaaay!

I have been shooting film for ages but I haven't made a decent lomohome despite owning several lomography cameras. Disgraceful, I know. So a few days ago, I tried setting up my lomohome!

Check out some of my film photographs
I've yet to unearth my past rolls so I will try to fill up that space slowly but surely... ;)

Hope you're having a great week!

cut, cut, cut and paste

If there's one thing I REEEEEAAALLLY wanted to learn, it's how to make decent collages. I am so envious of Katrina's What I Wish I Had Worn collages. They're eyecandies!

I found a local artist who makes pretty collages as well. I was perusing through their website and picked 5 of my favorite collages:

I should've bought some when I had the chance last year. Tsk. Check out their journals as well! I'm always glad to see handmade crafters making it big in this country. Their products are now in Heima! Good job guys! :)

DIY: matchbox building

Hello guys! This week I'm going to teach you how to make a matchbox building. This will serve as a container for those push pins, paper clips, staples, and other small stuff cluttering your desktops. :)

You will need:

- 4 big matchboxes
- cardstock of your choice (not shown)
- glue
- scissors
- ruler
- paint
- pencil and fine point pen

1. Glue the 4 matchboxes together.

2. Measure the height and width of your new structure using your ruler.

3. You can opt to paint the matchbox to make hide the rough edges and the markings on the boxes. Set aside to dry.

4. Design and draw your building on cardstock using the measurements you got earlier. I did mine using pencil first then fine-point pen. Erase the pencil lines.

5. Once the boxes are dry, paste your building drawing onto your boxes and VIOLA! A nice little caddy for your desktop. Make a few more and you can now build your own city!

You'll end up with four compartments, ham hams and cat are not included. ;)

Oh yeah, I also did a Tim Burton inspired building. My version of German expressionism art. Haha!

If you still haven't guessed what movie this is from,
let me give you a not so subtle hint...

Enjoy making your own citites! Yay!

weekend loot

So I was reading Katrina's blog post about her Japanese books when I remembered something I haven'ts done in months... go book hunting!

National Bookstore has this huge collection of Japanese hobby books, though most of them were about sewing and origami. I'm not much of a seamstress so when I browse through that particular section of the store, I usually just buy the origami books. I decided to check it out again this Saturday in hopes of finding "gold". I ended up buying 4 books I absolutely cannot put down... at 20% off!! Am I lucky or what??? more after the jump!

today's music is brought to you by

Dresden Dolls
Girl Anachronism

1, 2, 3, 4

you can tell
from the scars on my arms
and the cracks in my hips
and the dents in my car
and the blisters on my lips
that I'm not the carefullest of girls

you can tell
from the glass on the floor
and the strings that are breaking
and i keep on breaking more
and it looks like i am shaking
but it's just the temperature
then again
if it were any colder i could disengage
if i were any older i would act my age
but i don't think that you'd believe me
it's not the way I'm meant to be
it's just the way the operation made me

and you can tell
from the state of my room
that they let me out too soon
and the pills that i ate
came a couple years too late
and I've got some issues to work through
there i go again
pretending to be you
make-believing
that i have a soul beneath the surface
trying to convince you
it was accidentally on purpose

i am not so serious
this passion is a plagiarism
i might join your century
but only on a rare occasion
i was taken out
before the labor pains set in and now
behold the world's worst accident
i am the girl anachronism

and you can tell
by the red in my eyes
and the bruises on my thighs
and the knots in my hair
and the bathtub full of flies
that I'm not right now at all
there i go again
pretending that i'll fall
don't call the doctors
they've seen it all before
they'll say just
let her crash and burn, she'll learn
(the attention just encourages her)

and you can tell
from the full-body cast
that you're sorry that you asked
that you did everything you could
(like any decent person would)
but i might be catching so don't touch
you'll start believing you're immune to gravity and stuff
don't get me wet
because the bandages will all come off

you can tell
from the smoke at the stake
that the current state is critical
well it is the little things, for instance:
in the time it takes to break it she can make up ten excuses:
please excuse her for the day, its just the way the medication makes her...

i don't necessarily believe there is a cure for this
so i might join your century but only as a doubtful guest
i was too precarious removed as a cesarean
behold the worlds worst accident
I AM THE GIRL ANACHRONISM
(I'M THE GIRL ANACHRONISM)
I AM THE GIRL ANACHRONISM
(I'M THE GIRL ANACHRONISM)
I am the girl ...
I am the girl ...
I am the girl ...
I AM THE GIRL ANACHRONISM

missing in action

Hi guys! I'm currently using someone else's computer today. I've been having problems with my own computer at home so I'm not able to update as often I'd like. I do apologize for that. I miss blogging and tinkering with photoshop so hopefully I get the computer up and running ASAP!!!!

quote of the day

"this life that you and i are living,
it's a scrapbook in the making."
                                               - november starlings,
                                                 trembling blue stars

haaaarrd habit to break!

Ok I've finally broken that nasty habit of NAIL BITING!

After 20+ years of self-mutilation, I was finally able to tell myself to stop. And lookit that. It wasn't really that difficult after all. :)

To celebrate, I had my nails "stamped" by a dear friend of mine, Debbie. I think she really did an amazing job and I loooooooove it. Even the boyfriend likes it. Yaaay!

March 30, 2011

my mother could be the mafia

So I was looking for nail clippers the other and I asked my mom...

Me: Mother, where are the nail clippers in this house?
Mom: I have them here. (picks up a ziplock bag full of shiny metal objects and hands it to me). Take your pick.

Is this trippy or what!?!

They look like torture devices. I'm betting she had these since... the 80s probably. I just had to take pictures.

Man, this family is weird....
